Comments Off

Crochet, project 301. Completed 5/15/2011

So lovely after blocking

PATTERN
Adapted from instructions by Chriss Smith, “A Bit of Lace Hemp Triangle Scarf” (paid pattern)

SIZE
45.5″ across and 12″ deep after blocking

MATERIALS
Yarn: Pattern calls for 165 yds worsted weight yarn. I used 141 yds / 2 oz sport weight yarn

  • MC = main color. 1.5 oz, 106 yds

Solitude Wool Suffolk & Dorset (70% Wool, 30% Nylon), 1.7 oz /48 g, 120 yds. Color: Red (Paprika).

  • CC = coordinating color. 0.5 oz, 35 yds

1.1 oz / 75.4yds. Leftovers from 1 ball Solitude Wool Suffolk & Dorset (70% Wool, 30% Nylon), 3.5 oz /99 g, 240 yds. Color: Color Study Rust.

Crochet Hook: US Size N-15 (10 mm)

NOTES
As author Chriss Smith says, “Using the extra-large hook to explode the lace really changes the look and feel. You can make this scarf larger or smaller by simply increasing or decreasing chains by a multiple of 6.”

PATTERN
Adapted from a Lion Brand pattern for a light DK weight cashmere yarn (82 yds/ball). “Easy Tweed Scarf“, Pattern #80779AD.
(Site registration is required to get the pattern. The Lion Brand scarf is sized about 4 x 66 inches and looped around the model’s neck.)

MADE FOR
Myself

SIZE
4″ wide x 50″ long

Gauge: Not important

MATERIALS
Yarn: 1 ball Cascade Yarns – Eco Duo (70% undyed baby alpaca; 30% undyed merino wool). 3.5 oz / 100 g. 197 yds / 180 m. Color: 1701.

Crochet Hook – US Size M-13 (9 mm)

Other: 2 buttons, sewing needle and thread, large-eye yarn needle, and scissors

243. Rhythm Summer Scarf

Crochet, project 243. Completed 5/13/2010

A short lace scarf for summer

PATTERN
Adapted from instructions posted to the crochetme site

SIZE
Blocked to 6″ wide by 37.5″ long
Original pattern size: 6″ wide x 48″ long after blocking

MATERIALS
Yarn: 2 oz /126 yds lightweight yarn:
2 balls Jojoland Rhythm Superwash (100% Wool), 50g / 1.75 oz, 110 yds. Color R576 (red mix).

Crochet Hook: US Size I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook

GAUGE
Not important. Chained until I had 34″ long and a multiple of 5 (plus 1) to fit the pattern stitch: ch 126. Blocking stretched it to 37.5″ long.

NOTES
Original pattern used sock yarn and a US H-8 (5 mm) hook.

Scarf is worked lengthwise. I modified the last row: work as stated, but ch 3 instead of drawing up a loop. In this way, the edge will match the starting chain.

This would also be great made long and skinny (working short rows across the width) until 50″ or even 74″ long.

Pattern author Christie P. notes, “This pattern is very easy, but the one thing I had trouble with was keeping my lace loops a consistent size. Pull up the loop to about 1″ in height (or desired height) and hold it with your finger while making the next stitch. It will hold the loop in place and keep your loop sizes more even.”

SIZE
5.5″ wide x 41″ long

MATERIALS
Yarn:
2 skeins of yarn, 1 novelty fun fur/eyelash and 1 smooth worsted

Purple Neck Cozy

Comments Off

Crochet, project 184. Completed 1/11/2009

184_neck_cozy2 skeins bulky yarn — Ironstone Yarns – Colorchanges (53% Wool, 47% Acrylic), 100 yds / 50 g. Color: 760 (Purple).
Manufacturer’s Yarn gauge: 10 sts = 3″ on #11 needle

Hooks: J-10 (6 mm) crochet hook and K-10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook
Gauge:    Not important
Pattern:    By http://minglingyarn.blogspot.com/2007/09/could-it-be-any-easier-neck-cozy.html
Finished size:    4.5″ wide x 28″ long

Leftover yarn:    38 yds total (19 yds from each ball).
Used 162 yds total (81 yds from each ball of yarn held double).

Approximate cost:    $7.59 per ball for two balls plus buttons

Notes:    Hold yarn double throughout (I wound two balls of yarn into one).
Scarf is worked in Woven Stitch over an even number of stitches.

I found two problems with the pattern as written: With 92 sts, you have to work sc2TOG in last 2 sts to make pattern work. Try 93 instead. And a Row 13 is needed to make the scarf symmetrical.

Leftover yarn: 27 g / 1.0 oz (1/2 ball or about 29.7 yds)
