Crochet, project 289. Completed 9-Feb-2011

Cute and toasty

PATTERN
Adapted from instructions for the “Team Color Crocheted Wristlets” by Kim Werker, originally published in Interweave Crochet, Winter 2008.
Foundationless Single Crochet (FSC) Tutorials: snuffykin blog or crochetme.com

MADE FOR
Myself

SIZE
One size fits most — about 7 inches long.
GAUGE: Not important (3.5 sts/inch)

MATERIALS
Yarn: 1.75 oz, 109 yds (1 ball) yarn

  • 1 ball Wisdom Poems (100% wool). 1.75 oz / 50 g. 109 yds / 100 m. Color 473

Crochet Hook: US Size I-9 (5.5 mm)

NOTES
From the original pattern by Kim Werker: “These simply shaped, striped wristlets are worked mostly in single crochet through the back loop for a close-fitting ribbing.” Using taller sts at the end of the row provides the flared shaping to fit comfortably over the lower hand and thumb.

Variations: Omit color changes. On “back loop only” rows, work the last st through both loops. Add a row of sc around the base.
Row 1: Foundation single crochet (Fsc) 23 sts.

Crochet, project 281. Completed 12/25/2010

One size fits most

PATTERN
Adapted from instructions in the free pattern “Team Color Crocheted Wristlets” by Kim Werker, originally published in Interweave Crochet, Winter 2008. Download the pattern from Knitting Daily.

MADE FOR A colleague
SIZE: One size fits most

Gauge: Not important

MATERIALS
1.35 oz, 73.3 yds yarn: 1 ball Crystal Palace Mochi Plus (80% merino, 20% nylon). 50 g / 1.75 oz, 95 yds. Color: 558 (“Neptune Rainbow”).

Crochet Hook – US Size H-8 (5mm)

Tools: large-eye yarn needle; scissors

NOTES
Great pattern, and it uses less than 75 yds of yarn! I’ve used this lovely pattern at least twice. From Kim Werker: these “wristlets are worked mostly in single crochet through the back loop for a close-fitting ribbing … double crochet at one end provides the flair needed for them to fit comfortably over the lower hand to the thumb.”

Love this pattern!

PATTERN
Adapted from instructions for the “Team Color Crocheted Wristlets” by Kim Werker, originally published in Interweave Crochet, Winter 2008.

MADE FOR
A friend

SIZE
One size fits most

MATERIALS
Yarn:
1.9 oz, 76 yds worsted weight yarn (allow 2 oz / 80 yds)
1 skein Cascade Lanaloft (100% wool), 113g / 4 oz, 160 yds. Color LL90W: Mystical Pink.

Crochet Hook: US Size H-8 (5mm) crochet hook

GAUGE
18 sts and 14 rows = 4″ in pattern

NOTES
The original pattern called for two skeins of yarn, 126 yds each, in order to create stripes. So fun to make!

From Kim Werker: “These simply shaped, striped wristlets are worked mostly in single crochet through the back loop for a close-fitting ribbing with … double crochet at one end to provide the flair needed for them to fit comfortable over the lower hand to the thumb.”

Lace-Up Gauntlet Gloves

Knitting, project #140. Completed 10/12/2007.

140_blocking.JPG
Two gloves (knit flat) with offset thumb gussets that will be laced up with ribbon. These are for fashion, not warmth so much. But they are hot off the needles — and shown here, still damp, on the blocking board.

Yarn:
183 yds light yarn: 1 ball Cascade Yarns Cherub collection 4-ply (55% nylon, 45% acrylic), 50 g, 240 yds. Color: 25 (black)

Still to come: 4.5 yards satin ribbon

Needles and Hook: US 6 (4 mm) straight knitting needles
F-6 (4 mm) crochet hook for cast off

Gauge: 5.5 sts = 1 inch in St st

Finished Size: 12″ long, blocked to these custom width measurements:
8″ wide at the hand, 6″ at the wrist, and 10″ at forearm

Pattern sources:

  • The foundation of these gloves is Nikol Lohr’s Criss-Cross Gloves pattern from Naughty Needles (changed gauge and size)
  • I added the Irregular Rib pattern to the gloves, modified from sweater instructions by Teva Durham in Loop-D-Loop
  • Thumb gusset is combined from two sources 1) Picot Edge Gauntlet pattern in the Knit.1 magazine, premiere issue, Fall 2004; and 2) Joan Hamer’s excellent instructions at http://www.knitlist.com/01gift/wristers.htm
