Jesse Hat for Kyle

Knitting, Project #110

I knit this for my nephew, Kyle, who is attending college in a very cold place. Luckily, he likes the snow and ice. I hope this hat keeps him warm while looking cool.

Yarn:
Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky (85% Wool, 15% Mohair), 4 oz/113 g, 125 yds/ball
A) 1 ball Khaki (a light green color)
B) Leftover Olive (in stash), 1.4 oz (est. 44 yds)

Needles: Size 10.5 (6.5 mm) double-pointed
Gauge: 3.5 sts and 4.5 rows = 1 inch
Pattern: Modified from Hip Knit Hats by Cathy Carron
Figure 8 Cast On: Tutorial online at http://www.helloyarn.com/wp/?p=390

Finished size: Large, 22 to 23″ around x 8″ tall

Leftover yarn:
A) Khaki (lt Green) – 60 yds (used 65 yds or 0.52 ball)
B) Olive – 6 yds (used 38 yds or .3 ball)

Approximate cost: $6.60 — about $8/skein, so A: 4.20 and B: 2.40

Notes: Book calls for 55 yds A, and 45 yds B for the large size.
I used 65 yds A and 40 yds B for the large size.
For a flatter top, omit rounds 2, 4, 6, and 8
