Crochet, project 207. Completed 12/6/2009
Original yarn (Berroco Foliage) is out of production, so I used Cascade Jewel for this project.
Hat: adapted free pattern from Berroco
Flowers: Bernat Crochet Flowers, free pattern #99000600279
A friend’s daughter
Hat: Circumference – 19″, Height – 7″
About 81 yards bulky yarn:
1 ball Cascade Jewel (100% Peruvian Highland Wool), 100g / 3.5 oz. 142 yds. Color 9950 Pink.
Crochet Hook: US Size I-9 (5.5 mm)
Not important. Didn’t use tr sts called for in pattern; used DC instead. Hat is the right size after round 5 (28 spaces).
Given as 6 tr and 6 ch-2 spaces = 4″ with 5.50 mm hook
Yarn gauge: 3.5 to 4.5 sts per inch on H-8 (5 mm) to J-10 (6 mm)
Changed pattern to eliminated tr sts. Some * missing and other errors in pattern as well.
Added a loop of elastic in the final round to ensure the fit is right and not too loose: Work last round over a loop of beading elastic cord (tie cord around 19-inch foam head, knot, and trim ends): Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with slip st.
