Crochet, project 221. Completed 1/16/2010
Made with silky DK-weight yarn. Pattern needed a correction in one of the rounds, but was lovely to work overall.
Adapted from a beret pattern on Ravelry by LucyLu
Stripes from the stripe generator at http://biscuitsandjam.cm/stripemaker.php
Fits up to 22 inches circumference with plenty of stretch.
115 yds DK yarn — 3 skeins of Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% Silk, 49% Merino Wool), 50g / 1.75 oz, 150 yds.
– 0.55 oz / 47.14 yds A: 1 skein in Color: 195, Black
– 0.45 oz / 38.6 yds B: 1 skein in Color: 422, Wisteria
– 0.55 oz / 47.14 yds C: 1 skein in Color: 30, Purple Mystery
Crochet Hook: US Size J-10 (6 mm) crochet hook
4 inches = 15 sts and 7 rows of DC
Original pattern called for 115 yds DK yarn: 1/2 ball Marble by James C. Brett (100% acrylic), 100 g/3.5 oz, 210 m/230 yds. Gauge: 5.5 sts per inch. You can use another DK or worsted weight yarn. Thicker yarn will produce a stiffer and warmer hat.
There’s a mistake in the pattern though, in round 10: “SKIP ONE” SHOULD BE ADDED AFTER “CHAIN 2”.
10. (corrected): Ch 2, SKIP 1, DC into next st (counts as DC2TOG). DC into next 9, DC2TOG. Then do (Ch 2, SKIP 1, DC2TOG, DC into next 9, DC2TOG) 7 times, end with ch 2, slip stitch into top of 1st DC.
This yarn is silk soft but it is not stretchy. Tie beading elastic around a 22-inch head form and knot to make a loop. Work the last round over the elastic, slip stitch into 1st st.
