230. Ribby Toque

Knitting, project 230. Completed 2/24/2010

PATTERN
Adapted from the “Ribby Toque” pattern by Carol J. Sulcoski, Knitscene, Winter/Spring 2010

MADE FOR
A friend’s husband

SIZE
Fits 19-inch head, hat is 7″ long

MATERIALS
Yarn: 1 ball — Berroco Jasper (100% Fine Merino Wool), 50g / 1.75 oz, 98 yds. Color #3849, Milky Way.

Knitting Needles: US Size I-9 (5.5 mm) double-pointed needles (DPN)

GAUGE
Yarn: 18 sts/4 inches (4.5 sts/inch)

NOTES
Adjusted original pattern, which had a gauge of 5 sts/inch and used size 8 (5 mm) needles with different yarn. Changed top shaping to graft shut.

18 sts (mine) / 20 sts (original) = .9 conversion factor = Cast on 90 sts instead of 100. Follow pattern as written.

Would also like to try working this from the top down someday. It’s a lovely little hat, and the recipient says it is one of his favorites.
