NOTES
For a flatter top, work 11 DC in ring in round 1 and use the same shaping instructions. So, Round 1 = 12 DC, Round 2 = 24 DC, Round 3 =36 DC, Round 4 = 48 DC, and Round 5 = 60 DC.

Summary:
1. Chain 4 and join into a ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), and
work 7 DC in ring = 8 DC. Join round.
2. Ch 3. DC in same stitch (increase made). *Work 2 DC in each DC (inc)* around = 16 DC. Join round.
3. Ch 3. Work 2 DC in next DC (inc). *Work 1 DC, then 2 DC in next DC (inc)* around= 24 DC. Join.

Continue to increase: Round 4 = 32 DC, Round 5 = 40 DC, Round 6 = 48 DC, Round 7 = 56 DC, Round 8, work even (56 DC), Round 9 = 64 DC.

Round 10, work even (about 5.5″ long).

Work even until desired length (9″ minimum; slouchy hats can be up to 11.5″ long or more).

Finish with 4 to 6 rounds of sc for band.
