Adapted from instructions by Cinchy Hat by Cathy Carron (knitscene, Fall 2007, page 45) with modifications for heavier yarn from Ravelry user “NaiveMelody”. You can order the pattern online from Interweave ($3.50 at the time of this post).

Adult, size Large, 22-inch head. 8.5″ long

Yarn: 3 oz (119 yds) heavy worsted weight yarn
– 1 ball Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica (50% Wool, 50% Merino), 138 yards /126 meters, 100 g / 3.5 ounces. Color 101: Multi Jungle (Camo green)

Knitting Needles:
US H-8 (5 mm) double-pointed needles (dpn) and 16″ circular needle

4 sts and 6.5 rows per inch
(original pattern gauge is 5 sts and 6.5 rows per inch)

Stripes omitted: using a multi-colored yarn in a heavier weight than the pattern called for. I bought the yarn on vacation and started the hat right away. Since this is a top-down hat, the difference in gauge (original pattern and mine) didn’t matter until the hat was almost the right size. To accommodate the different gauge, instead of 96(102) sts, use 78 (84) sts to get a 20(22) inch hat.

Ravelry users were great in helping with adjusting this pattern. I did the ribbing finish recommended by “NaiveMelody”. The hat is finished with a chocolate brown ribbon.
