Whole Chicken in the Slow Cooker with sweet potato: Follow the recipe as stated, but peel 1 large sweet potato and dice into large chunks. Place the sweet potato chunks on top of the chicken. Cook on High for 5 hours. Potatoes will be thoroughly tender but still hold their shape.
Alternative to using sweet potatoes: Make the Balsamic Roasted Baby Carrots: Heat the oven to 400F, and follow the recipe on the Grimmway Farms site.
Roasted Broccoli with Raisin Vinaigrette: An excellent variation on roasted broccoli from epicurious. The raisin vinaigrette is a thick sauce, also delicious on the sweet potatoes.
